Elder James L. Lee

Administrative Assistant to the South Carolina Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop J.J. Johnson, District Superintendent of the Charles Harrison Mason District, Pastor of the Mason Temple Church Of God In Christ, Inc.

The Elder James L. Lee is a native of Dothan, Alabama, and he is the second oldest child of the late Deacon John Lee, Jr. and Mother Johnnie Mae Lee. He cherishes the memory of his parents, especially that of his mother, who taught him the way of holiness as a child. As to Elder Lee’s formal secular and theological training; he is the graduate of Carver High School (Dothan, Alabama), and Tuskegee University, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Industrial Technology. Moreover, he also attended the Master Of Business Administration program of the North Carolina Central University, and has completed numerous distance learning courses in Bible from Moody Bible Institute (Chicago, Illinois); and continuing education courses and lectures provided by the Church Of God In Christ denomination.

Elder James Lee has also had the distinction of serving his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of Captain. Moreover, he has also brought to his ministry administrative and business insights and experience gained from 13 years in the corporate world in a top managerial position in GTE that continues to serve as a vital asset to the South Carolina Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, and the churches that he
pastors and oversees.

Through the providence of God, Elder James Lee was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit at a revival held at the Mason Temple Church Of God In Christ (Conway, South Carolina). Shortly thereafter Elder Lee acknowledged his call into ministry; and in 1982, he was appointed pastor of the Mason Temple Church Of God In Christ by the Episcopal decree of the late Right Reverend H. Jenkins Bell. Elder Lee accepted the will of God and the mandate of his bishop, resigning from a job with a yearly income of $50,000 to pastor only 20 members. The Lord has rewarded Elder Lee’s faith and personal sacrifice by causing Mason Temple to grow from 20 adults to a typical Sunday Morning attendance of 500 worshipers. In fact, Elder Lee’s pastoral excellence is demonstrated by the fact that despite having a diverse membership, Mason Temple Church is one of the larger predominately African-American congregations in Conway, SC.

In addition, to sharing his life as the husband of a gifted educator: Mrs. Robbie Lee; he is also the proud father of three: District Missionary Shannon Felder, Minister Gary Lee, and Aaron Lee, and grandfather of three. In addition to pastoring the Mason Temple Church, Elder Lee’s wisdom and distinction as an effective pastor called him to be appointed to his second pastorate, Catoe Chapel Church Of God In Christ, by the Episcopal decree of the Right Reverend Johnnie J. Johnson, Jurisdictional Prelate of the South Carolina Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Once again, Elder Lee’s pastoral and administrative abilities were confirmed. Under his pastoral administration, a once small and divided rural congregation worshipping in an old wooden building, has grown to become the largest black congregation in its community, and is presently worshipping in the new modern edifice that they have constructed.

Currently, Elder James Lee serves the Church Of God In Christ, South Carolina Jurisdiction, as an Administrative Assistant to the Bishop in the area of Budget and Finances, and member of the Executive and Ordination Boards. Elder James Lee is indeed a man of vision, principle, wisdom, and integrity; whose ministry has traveled the length and breadth of this nation. A mentor and friend to many, Elder James L. Lee is committed to being an anointed servant leader in the kingdom of God.
